Now that you are thinking about what you can do to take yourself on a healing journey, let's look at a few of the available resources for you to consider, as well as other important factors that play a significant role in your overall wellness.
First of all, recognize that you are a unique individual which means what works for someone else may or may not work for you. The information I share is meant to help and encourage you to find the fix that works for your body as you explore the information and apply it to your unique situation.
The following is a list of avenues and areas that I would like you to consider if you have not, or are not currently benefiting from them. I will share a summary here and then later offer more details in separate blogs for each. (you can search the blog tab for more)
Chiropractic Care - Chiropractic treatment can help relieve pain affecting your bones, connective tissues, joints, and muscles. After receiving chiropractic care, many people find relief from recurring headaches and the inability to sleep well. The spine plays a major role in other organs and functions of the body working effectively. If there is any misalignment, especially for a prolonged period, there most likely will be symptoms of dis-ease in other parts of the body. If you have ever been in an automobile accident, suffered an athletic injury, or simply fallen, you could benefit from chiropractic care. Most Chiropractic physicians are very knowledgeable of the whole body system as well as the importance of physical therapy, muscle training, and nutrition and diet. Their approach to wellness is usually holistic.
Mental and Emotional Health Many studies have been done that prove our emotions and thoughts can directly affect our body and overall health. Many things that can happen in life affect our physical body such as the death of a loved one, losing a job, moving, unhealthy relationships, and especially childhood trauma. When we don't know how to deal with stress or are not taught a healthy way to respond to our emotions, our body suffers for it. This is perhaps one of the most important areas to search out on the road to finding your healing. (Contact me to schedule a free session to explore whether or not this is the direction for you to go)
Diet and Nutrition This area of our health is essential, and yet often taken for granted. With so much emphasis being put on quick, easy, and convenient in our culture, we have been doing our bodies a great disservice without realizing how badly we have suffered for it. It's time to get knowledgeable on what is in everything you're putting in your body and understand the effects it is having on your overall well-being.
Hydration Correct hydration is necessary for many of the functions in the body. When you consider that our bodies are made up of an average of 50-65% water it's easy to see why water intake is so important to overall health. Ever feel foggy-brained or strangely tired in the middle of the day? You may just need to hydrate. A person will normally feel thirsty after losing just 2-3% of their body's water, and being dehydrated by just 2% affects the performance of mental tasks and physical coordination. Believe it or not, minerals play a significant role in staying hydrated.
Moving and Strengthening the Body The human body is amazing and wonderfully created. It is an intricate system designed to function perfectly as long as it has the right fuel and a stable environment. Movement is crucial to keeping both the circulatory and lymphatic systems in optimal working condition as well as keeping muscles, joints, bones, and connective tissues flexible and strong. There are many activities to choose from when trying to stay active: walking, biking, hiking, dancing, rowing, and the list goes on. Find something you enjoy and start small if you need to, but get started if you want to feel better.
Connecting with Others Humans are relational beings. Connecting with others is very important to every aspect of our overall wellness; physical, emotional, and spiritual. We receive encouragement, inspiration, motivation, and understanding as we connect with others who have had similar experiences and trials as we have. When we hear the testimony of another who had success or victory over some struggle or illness, we gain hope that we will find healing as well. When we share our experiences, we grow in compassion toward others, and our inner strength is renewed as we remember our journey. Connecting through relationships is important because it keeps us from feeling alone and as if no one understands or cares. It is essential in helping to keep us in a place of believing, hoping, and healing.
As I reflect on those beginning days of my healing journey, I realize the importance of keeping an open mind toward trying the many different avenues available to us as we each search for the perfect and unique combination we need to become happy, healthier, and whole, able to enjoy the beautiful, abundant life we want to experience. I hope that you will continue taking each necessary next step to becoming the healthiest you've ever been.
